AS a resident of Thagoona 4306 August 1983 we the old farts of the suburb have seen many things come and go, issues addressed and neglected by our authorities, politicians promise and piss off and some preformed their promises, and to be honest its the same across most non urban suburbs of regional towns.
Transparency Counts.🙏🙏
Now seeing this is edition ONE and transparency I believe essential to any print opinion/news to some platform declare I am a member of Labor Party since about 85 when Joh Bejelki Peterson stated “we should know our status in life and our children should stay within those boundaries” when the political debate at the time was weather university opportunity should be free to all.
TWO failed candidate council elections on my portfolio but my interest in local issues has never wained and was a frequent contributor to Letters to Editor until Murdock crushed the over century old masthead and put in his Brisbane based copy and paste so called journalists.
I have declared this as we have editors in our news paper local landscape who have not declared their affiliations or former affiliations with political parties past and present or just BBQ mates.
Speaking of journalism I’m interested who is happy with our local once go to , never be without Morton Border News???
Hard copy news is expensive I imagine and local content gathering is time consuming and often boring and trying to make deadline would be a tough gig and by the look at the size of the magazine now to what it was I feel for its future as the older residents need that piece of paper every Friday and I will have more to say about its publishers I’m sure later.
NEW DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS.
Who would have guessed the Walloon flood plain would be demanding a have a million house and land blocks?
Not me but that’s a fact and with developments in Bryants Paddock on Mt Marrow and now near the Seventh Day Church approved one would think Thagoona residents may be interested in where all the water off this roofs will end up?
Yep its heading your way lower Thagoonaites and to my knowledge no flood infrastructure has been released bar a nice design map drawing.
Being a former Construction Manager Telstra I have worked across South East Queensland to the NT border with councils, engineers, and developers to reline services when developments are pending and I have had extensive discussions with council over the Great Wall of Thagoona’s failure to do absolutely anything other than keeping the mower operator in work and a political PR white elephant.
My part has been a series of meetings on site, letters to the mayor all with no result leaving me the final decision to take it to the Ombudsman with my claim of missuse of public funds ..
I am getting feedback from many residents of flooding now but water will be getting there quicker with roofs speeding up the flow, and some longer residents then me have just up and left with the fear flood reoccurrence.

Tired Of the Dust MUM?
Part of living in our little piece of heaven is the dust from MT Marrow quarry.
To be quite honest I have not progressed this issue since the Newman government but it still exists today.
It must have a effect on our health but gathering evidence is or was tough and I was frustrated by FOI when on that crusade and quite honestly as I have asbestosis my interest would /was regarded as self indulgent for the lack of better description.
Strange having a mine so close to a school spewing dust, and my child did attend in the 80’s would not pass the pub test today but ….

It’s pretty bloody sad when a volunteer mowing and wipper snipping gets his fuel drum stolen when doing this job.
Pretty grubby stuff but the volunteers will progress and always looking for help on every second Saturday of month basis..
IN CLOSING
We all have our bitches and whinges about just about everything if you follow social media but once take a breath and go outside and look about your Thagoona and see what you have
Birdlife abounding, space, trees, air show every day, if your lucky good neighbours or ones that talk or wave ,room for kids to run, bike skate, play football, golf , or other outside activities so lets count our blessings guys.
