Thagoona Online #2

Welcome again and thank you for your interest in our little project of keeping it local at Thagoona and surrounds, and in no way want to compete with existing Social Media.

If we get the interest I will expand the site and move to give its our own Domain and Name and if we have any breaking stuff or you can get it direct to your mailbox via the site with a simple “like” on the page.

IF and this occurs you will get the nod.

My aim is to keep it local, informative and relevant and to achieve that without boring you to death throw in some local content that may give you some ideas so we all do not have to reinvent the wheel for the newer residents of our little piece of Aus.

Community Living

THE VALUE OF GOOD WILL.. (In Neighbourhoods)*

Community Counts

Not sure now but once when a business was for sale part of the purchase price factored in “Good Will” an element of the business the owners had built up with present customers and would be part of a start for the new owners.

Sadly in todays time that sentiment had diminished, personal relationships and interactions are now rare and extends to our neighbourhoods where the practice of “Individualism” is normal and encouraged which increases revenue overall, and incidentally makes crime much easier because no one takes the time or care about what’s happening next door because as long its not me its all good.

Last weekend I went back to may childhood street and met some surviving parents and their kids, all now in their 60’ and 70”s and after some awkward moments the screens come down and we all reverted back to kids in the neighbourhood families that knew all the houses, numbers, and the dog names where we grew up.

Kids that come from War Service homes in the 1950 to 60’s telling each other our life stories, achievements and failures in honesty without the airs and graces in todays times, and was ragged by your mates where a thin skin wouldn’t cut it even today.

NO dobbing on your mates, running to mummy and daddy to sort it out, you sorted it and it was over, sometime with some liaison with friends then we got on with the next day.

All this was easy when the neighbourhood cared about each other. Someone doing it tough you helped, not walk away and hide or scared to get involved. You knew when to stand back, when it became private but you did your bit, we all did and it was returned if needed.

Good neighbours are vital to good safe secure neighbourhoods, you don’t live in their pockets but a yarn over the back fence or a BBQ a wave just keep communication channels open protects, exchanging phone numbers, and you may disagree on some issues but that life.

At Thagoona we do have that opportunity and space to keep our lifestyle “country like” and that culture serves if we allow it.

AND YES……it took someone over 60 years to BLAB to one of the mums that her kid would sit on the roof top to view the planes flying overhead… and yes he’s a World Air Traffic Specialist today.

Good Will is relevant and important and you can’t go back, and it does take effort to keep or even start good street culture, but you may learn a trick or two from an old fox over a beer or red.

Thagoona Rainfall Data August 2022

Wildlife Watch

The Buff-banded Rail

Mum and the Kids

After the extensive rainfall in our area some of the wildlife was relocated or maybe expanded their area where once went unnoticed.

In our case the Buff- banded Rail has made a new home in our area and is settling in quite well.

Extremely secretive at first hiding in dense growth areas but slowly making its presence known.

A natural resident in this area liking shallower water I’m informed..

Check out the website … Buff-banded Rail | BirdLife Australia. Keep a eye out and enjoy if your environment suits.

Retail Watch

The Local IGA. Walloon

Anyone supporting our local IGA at Walloon must be impressed with the new fit out. As a former retailer, when refits occur mass panic is usually the normal and owners alcohol intake increases dramatically, however that exercise seemed to progress swimmingly, and the Staff were excellent in guiding us through.. Love your Work Team. 👍

Footnote… For those who use WhatsApp for contact , that service is available.. IF you like and want to contribute indicate and I’ll contact.

Cheers

The Grump.
