Mayoral Friendly Fire Flack
Being in public office is a honour but also bloody hard work if you take the job seriously.
Being a failed candidate twice for council was one of the most eyeopening experiences one could ask for. Often a simple door knock resulted in a hour conversation on whatever the resident wanted to get off their chest and we’re just looking for an ear to let it all out.
My listening skills were reasonably attuned from jobs in the public service and retail and it’s easy when you’re not in the role to promise the world but the reality of incumbency is another game completely.
Over past times I was at odds with our present Mayor politically however I cannot understand the flack she is getting from the media who are slanted to her past side of politics.
Mayor Harding and her council team were elected to regain integrity to the public authority and she is doing a good job in the eyes of many of the punters in my circles, and I agree.
Past indiscretions of other Polly’s have been either put on hold or dealt with and we have moved on , and in my time I have not seen a Mayor more engaged with the grass roots in this area than Teresa is, and to be honest the two representatives per electorate is taking time for many to come to terms with and its opponents wanting to revert back to the past where transparency was at the whim of one without oversight of another who his held in joint accountability.
Overall if the boss is copping flack from both sides she must be doing something right but it’s up to all of us to stay attached as democracy is hard and in need continual maintenance.

Home Cyber Safety is Important .
Just a bit of advice from an old lineman here who is a baby boomer and I’m told that we are good at giving unasked and often unappreciated advice.
Your communication network is always changing and keeping abreast of it is tough unless you know exactly what a communication network actually delivers.
5G is about to hit Thagoona and the feed to you modem and peripheral equipment will change gradually and the security of your network will decrease as your un updated equipment will not be able to be accepted by outdated equipment.
Hackers rely on laxadaisynefs and they will eventually seek you out and depending on you equipment will quietly draw out your personal data over time.
Often attempts to scam you is obvious by ones that are bugging you on the phone or email but the most dangerous, its the implanted bugs you can’t see unless updated firewalls or security updates are current in not only your equipment but modems as well.
VPN’s Android, Apple, lingo is confusing and there are sharks just waiting to sell you a car with a free bumper bar behind a counter, but you best weapon is to stay current or have contact with someone who does not want to sell you anything and knows his kit . ( sorry Lineman Talk) and probably will give unwanted advice usually after you’ve been scammed.

For All you Weather Guru’s
We all are pretty good at having a shot at the weather guys when they get it wrong. Yep the BBQ joke always gets a laugh when someone forecasts what’s coming up or what should have been.
The people from BOM do their best and are only human with the equipment and resources they have, and over time we have seen many offshoots of that technology with differing labels.
Being a bit of a tech freak I did a bit of research and have come up with what I believe an App that can give you not only your home but you intending destination forecasts and to me has proved very accurate OR better than the status quo.
The data is off world satellite ,American based, but covers Australia in this model released here.
Air Quality, Precipitation , Temp, wind , and as stated the ability to shift to the target destination and what its forecast will be.
It costs like many to get rid of the adds and to expand the services but I believe worth the download to check it out especially if you planning a big trip where weather is critical to your arrival.
Historic Reminders
Back in the Day 1983
The Walloon Saloon was in its fibro best suit, Leo Green’s horse and buggy was parked up on the hitching rail and Charlie and Bronyn were in the shop.
Yep that was about it at Walloon under the Moreton Shire Council. The new estate at the Railway line was in its infancy and the rail motor a “Silver Bullet” stopped what was was known as Stop 4 I recall for those Thagoona residents alighting at Adelong Avenue. Thagoona Station was non existent-ant and it’s present location was a cream stop, also a coal loading ramp existed further towards Rosewood apparently. Some evidence of that still exists near the heaps beside the Golf Club, serviced by a Washing Plant that was demolished without any historic recognition or public consultation.
Stepping off the rail motor was challenge and the guard used to give the mums travelling from the big smoke, Ipswich a hand unloading the kids, shopping, prams all onto the coal bases tracks and we wandered back to our homes loaded up. Such was life in pioneer Thagoona.
Shopping in Ipswich was interesting as when they were filling out the receipt of purchase you had to spell the suburb, explain its location, and often challenge the delivery charges they assumed we were Gatton way or further but I suppose then Rosewood was the sticks in their view.
It was not uncommon for motorists to run out of fuel on the Thagoona Flats and I kept a spare drum for that emergency as motorist would call in asking if we had a phone. The fuel drum was returned full for years but when the population culture changed my drum never returned.
So much for Progress and peoples care for each other. Sad we let it go this way.
