Breaking Stop Press …..Nimby On Girral

Writing about it , talking about it , isn’t the same as when it actually turns up in your back yard.

It shakes you into reality when a development sign appears on your street and that exactly what has happened to us on Girral Road.

26 plus lots planned initially on end of a dead end street will effect lifestyles drastically and the loss of bushland occupied by natural wildlife we nurtured and protected to attain balance now is under the threat from the profiteers of pain.

Progress is inevitable otherwise Thagoona would still be a swamp, but when development time arrives we should expect existing residents to be advised and consulted before a sign appears.

This action automatically puts the natives on a war footing.

Bureaucratic boffins churning out their chaff, with little appreciation of what anxiety it causes, but take away their morning tea urn meeting means and their world goes into total free-fall.

Well all I can say at this time the Girral Giant has stirred and is in Go mode. Stand By..

PS.. The signage on Dances Road has been conveniently hidden so the residents of Tarana Avenue will not be aware of the traffic impact.

We need to set a benchmark for all developments in our areas so developers know exactly what meets Residential Acceptable Behaviour as well as their compliance issues by the statutory authorities.

Thagoona Click Bait..

Is it me or were you just a little perplexed with the announcement of the new shopping complex and tavern in Bryant’s Paddock.

Being a man that enjoys a quiet ale at times and a former retailer my alarm bells were ringing especially in the hospitality space when the logic of the announcement started to sink in.

Now guys remember the promo stuff we were fed when Waterleigh was launched?

Restaurants, lakeside dining, walking tracks, nature strips, koalas, and what do we have, just a normal residential development that’s ownership has changed multiple times so as not to be held accountable for the former owners promises.

So let’s look at the next thought bubble.

We have 4 pubs, one in transition maybe, one club within 5klms of each other and we are told another tavern to be in the mix.

Let it be known a pub licence is not cheap and it would be a brave investor to feel they can come in and divide the existing pie, or even a bigger pie after the houses are built and filled to make a buck and pay off his mortgage.

The logic does not stand up, and so it’s a con, click bait to get your attention, but it does start the conversation as did Waterleigh. This is developer one, the forward scout in military terms to see the reaction, then the company shuffle following will adjust the visions to suit the residency demographics.

Such is retail, but we should be conned and ensure any development will not impede or impact existing properties.

Your call, your investments, your quality of life, to be considered.

Think it through and what your prepared to trade off? And don’t take your eye off the ball.

RDPO REBOOT.

In past issues I have suggested we as residents need to keep an eye on our surrounds and developments occurring in our area.

Since that post I had the occasion to be invited to informal meeting with the Rosewood District Protection Organisation who do a great job with organising Nature Walks in our patch, identifying wildlife and plants and areas that hold significant environmental importance .

This organisation is doing it tough with depleting membership and needs support from the people for who it was created to protect. US.

Over its history it has taken on some big conglomerates and made some significant impact on the way we live today but like all Non For Profit organisations people move on or like me get old and cranky.

I do not need to remind you our area is under the impact of progress, which is inevitable but in saying that we cannot allow free rein to developers to choose our destiny and leave councils and governments to appreciate why we chose to get out of the shoe box existence of the city dwellers.

You may see some information about the group appearing locally or survey questions so I urge you to consider giving it some thought as numbers count when it comes to pushing issues through the autocrats.

If you are interested and want to be contacted please leave you number at the bottom of this blog and I will arrange for you to be contacted and your number will be confidential not published.then deleted.

Your involvement level will be entirely up to you, but what I have learned over my time, generational change needs passion, vision, and dedication, and the more of these qualities the greater success any organisation gains and the more formidable they become when going to the bargaining table.

Over to YOU it’s Your future and lifestyle.

Monuments to Themselves

The residents made their decision on Division 10 and I missed the cut.. TWICE..

It would have been high honour to be elected and serve the people and to be paid full time, a bonus but the simple fact there are other public servants that work just as hard go unpaid in Non For Profit organisations across the entire country.

So, there has been kafuffel off late with the decision by the council to remove the former councillors badges and tags from public assets.

Yes the habit has been going on since ever but that does not make it right.

If you are elected/employed to do a job, you do it, that what you signed on for, so getting monument status while holding office should be embarrassing if not ego driven, and one would think that being honoured AFTER you left service would be more appropriate. Not so with Some.

Secondly the Unnamed Unpaid Non For Profits army go on until they burn out. Same hours, same people being served but without the bells and whistles that go with the encumbered, and without the retirement benefits. They vanish into a very narrow history held by the ones that care for the cause.

These silent volunteers are the servants that deserve recognition, not just being part of a photo shoot with a polly adding to his or her profile saying look at me.

In short building monuments to yourself while on the public payroll is not part of your job description.
