Ipswich City Councils Growth, Infrastructure and Waste Committee met Thursday 12th October 2023 and approved the development under what has been described by officials as “quote” “Higher Standard Than Any other Developments in Ipswich”

BELOW VIDEO OF DECISION STARTING AROUND THE 15 MINUTE MARK ON PROJECT 13198/2022/CA

Please listen to the proceedings for further reference..

After the Meeting we , Two residents plus myself were briefed extensively by a OIC of the Planning section and given assurances of compliance of developer will be monitored and open to residential feedback through the entire development processes..

Both Councillors and the Mayor expressed high regard to all the 36 residents who submitted submissions and the quality of those submissions have set the possible benchmarks for the engineers and planners to deliver this project standard to applications now and in the future across Thagoona and surrounds …

THE GRUMP’S TAKE..
From day one the residents of Girral road never expected to stop the development BUT what we wanted was to ensure the development was done in a way that was sustainable and ensure our wildlife was given its true respect, project managed in a sequence so that infrastructure was in place before the development started.
Those demands were made clear in our submissions and as I stated as above, set a benchmark that may/ will be used in further developments across the council areas but mainly our concern Thagoona .

This effort and outcome cannot go without praise and the input of all residents who were absolutely dogged in their efforts to keep the basturds honest, and the research teams were of the quality of any public service department, without the overtime bill which was 24/7 as the closing time for submission drew closer. A clear example of what ordinary people and communities can do if we choose to work together and all stepped into areas never explored and with that experience that will help us in the future bun fights.

The meeting we had after the decision with the OIC of projects was very helpful and after a extensive brief on the major thinking of the designs it was made clear we residents wanted to create dialogue with the developer before and during the development, a issue that was taken on board by council, agreed as a great innovation, and they will make that representation on our behalf to the developer to achieve meetings and reports at residential level.
Another discussion point was the planning of the work schedule so as development infrastructure was in place IE Intersections. Roads , and utilities BEFORE major construction commences. Those assurances were forthcoming.

Residents plight of Lower Thagoona were also included in our discussions at some length and the impact of the development of our neighbourhood and we were informed the flow rate would be reduced via weirs and basins upstream. That hydrology can only be judged as correct when the rains arrive the infrastructure in place, but the jury is still out.

As mentioned its imperative that the Ecological Auditing must take place and to me thats a joint accountability we as residents will be across as we speak..

The bottom line to me is we as residents need to stay across and participate in forums and sessions so shocks like this one do not occur again and puts everyone in the loop, and to be bloody honest it takes committed community/ neighbourly effort and commitment, plus a pride in your bit of Australia.
Community Information Sessions like the one coming up in Rosewood on Monday the 23rd of October at Rosewood at the Library would add to your knowledge of future developments
SEE BELOW.

In closing I would thank our Councillors and the Mayor for playing straight with me and keeping channels open and I hope your bruises heal from some direct non grammerly correct language, and correspondence, but I am the Grump

See you at the Library on the 23rd punters…
