A Punters Perspective
After the 4 Divisional forums and The Mayoral Main Event a number of things are pretty clear when taking a broad look at the field.
Firstly the sitting Councillors have a much more polished responses which is not surprising as it is their living.
“Change” is a key catch phrase but for what? some struggle to explain…
Social media in some cases is toxic and it’s very disappointing the administration of the candidates do not take some of that toxicity off their sites..
In saying that the ones who don’t take down those indecent posts may reflect their true position…
It’s very understandable some of the longer serving councillors do not want the history brought up, but in my opinion for the new voters moving into Ipswich that history needs to be available (See Below 🔽) so as they know why we need to be very transparent on every single thing council is involved in.
The idea of moving back to 10 or more divisions and officers by our potential leaders does not pass the pub test considering the same people are concerned about costs, paying off debts, not raising rates.. No Lessons learnt here..
More salaries and overheads and decentralisation raises the potential of the dirty deals of the past..
Two up representatives ,ideally male and female, travelling the electorate seeing the issues on the ground, in the punters domain, against a clerical environment, gives face to face communication it’s true meaning..
The policy of selling off of assets for any reason sends shivers through me and that is the thin edge of the wedge, as the next step in that ideology is staff, outsourcing services suggested as policy by a mayoral candidate.. really??
That suggestion along with Nuclear power pods in our neighbourhoods have all been suggested as part of some candidates spin is well beyond council accountability but shows the candidates grasp on his potential job.
Crunch time for me and my vote will include One Woman as a candidate and to be dead honest I have not settled past that as yet, unusual for me at this time, but being a resident in the thick of future development I want a councillor that is truly a representative of my community and it’s needs, and the jury is still out at this point.
This last week will bring out all the dirty laundry so don’t let the turkeys get ya..
