Call it what you like but a dump is a dump when you dumping.
The meeting to give feedback was a resounding success is ways far beyond the issue of deciding where the new “Transfer Station” was Not going to be and the attendance made it abundantly clear .
The suggestion to put a refuse station at altitude above a school on land of monumental value serviced by country wheel off passing roads, above the communities of Mt Marrow and Thagoona with no impact study and then expect a civil response was ludicrous never going to happen.
What were they thinking, or was this just a herring to start the real conversation on deciding which of the other two are the most suitable now and the future???
Maybe, but the major outcome for me was the galvanising of the Thagoona Mt. Marrow populations in its opposition, and the poor notification processes, lack of communication, begrudgingly admitted and the vow to improve by the Mayor and Local Member.
This situation is not new as the Girral Road and Lower Thagoona residents went through exactly the same trauma when developers sprung the surprise on them with the development of shoe box estate at the top of the street.
I would be a fool to suggest we all think it will be resolved without a fight and its imperative we all put in submissions and keep the pressures on the decision making processes
I urge you all to follow this link, Join and register your submission and put YOUR SUGGESTION on where you feel it should go
Western Resource Recovery Centre Site Location
MY personal preference is the Jeeropily site as it has the infrastructure IE Road Capacity, Ex Industrial site, nearness to Willowbank Land Fill and when the planned Western Complex needs to be built this site would complement that project.
The fact that it’s owned by New Hope Coal should not be an issue.
New Hope has not delivered it promise of land rehabilitation promise and commitment to the people of Rosewood and surrounds while we have mountains of overburden along the Rosewood Amberley Road. What deals were done for the to get away with that infringement of trust is criminal and for those who really want to know how it was, go to Stone Quarry Cemetery and look at the lay of the land and compare it with what we have been delivered as restoration..
You will be shocked, compared with the good job they did at Oaklea Colliery on the Tellagella Road.
The premise of ratepayers paying for land New Hope is farcical and if New Hope were decent corporate citizens this Refuse Station would be little compensation in return for their tardiness.
Well the Grump has had his spray but when the next meeting on the 24th of August arrives and the location set may I suggest council have a facilitator to moderate the discussion and maybe have seperate conversations for those who wish to support their site selection for their views to be heard.
The Mt Marrow and Thagoona residents are now a voice not to be taken lightly and that shot across the bows Tuesday night has put council and developers on notice and it made us old war horses smile.. a lot.
Cheer
The Grump.
