Qualification over Presentation in Local Government essential.

After years of being in the kitchen of public distrust working for Telstra in South East Queensland (Walloon to NT Boarder) as a construction manager I got to interact with many councils and councillors across my area of accountability.

Administration and some engineering decisions could be made from a plan but the majority was work was scoped on site by what I regard as the practical people with experience and local knowledge of their land they were very familiar. Those jobs usually went smooth and effortlessly efficient.

However, not all Councils and Councillors were that savvy when it come to civil engineering or in some cases struggled turning on a tap.

My gauge was when we arrived for a site meeting of the project we, my officer in charge of actual job and I could gauge if we were going to have issues by the amount of clipboards and HI Vis. Shirts in ties greeted us on arrival. This gauge was clear indication of what the Councillors knowledge of construction and whether he or she had the experience to report back to their administrators.

To be brutally honest the Elected members west of the range were then far more attuned to their area of responsibility then those on the Eastern Seaboard side of the range. I put that to people know and respect local knowledge and their ability to represent them rather than who can sell themselves during a 3 month election campaign of glossy picture opportunities.

In politics they say you get exactly what you deserve, and if you choose to elect a shiny arse pen pusher or PR Prince or Princess to deal with your public utilities or look after your assets, you may just talk to the public servants in the council offices and take out the middle man.

Local government is exactly that. Local People, Local Knowledge, Local needs, so research your candidate and that great Council representative may be your local farmer, mailman, shop keeper, council worker, or John or Jill Citizen everyday resident who right now may not have the glossy shine nor may they have the financial backing from who want a return for their investment, but will fight without fear of upsetting convention.

Is that You?.. Don’t be Afraid, …GO for it…. You will learn heaps on your journey, win or loose and again being perfectly honest I’m a two time failure but what a ride that will live with you for a lifetime.

Ever tried putting your potato chips in the fridge ?

Just seal them tight and you will be pleasantly surprised, and No they don’t go soggy, and this also applies to Red Wine. The false assumptions of Red room temperature applies in European Countries generally with under 25 degrees ambient, but in Australia a slight chill enhances the flavours in the hotter delivery places. Enjoy the experience…

A Warning … Just keep a eye out for the old Paper Wasps that hang off or leafy plants … Keep in Mind the Blue Eyed Honeyeaters treat them as a delicacy along with the spiders, assisted by the Butcher Birds.

With the new proposal of urbanisation of a rural lifestyles the Karrabin-Roswood Road will need to be made 4 lanes.

If you take note of the present design there is enough land to accomodate that design.

When Shifting utilities is required brings issues with re alignments, way leaves, and reclamations of private land, compensation, noise, hydrology and basic traffic disruption all part of what should be on the agenda Before any approval to proceed Bryant’s Paddock Development. (Thagoona Pub Complex) .

We are extremely fortunate to still have natural wildlife corridors, and a seasonal presence of migration through our wildlife ground and airborne, urbanisation kills their passages.

For those newbies I remind them Thagoona was a black soil desert in its primary development. Our land was on “Montana Meadows” and just bare dirt with one tree survived the dozer chain. Look at a Thagoona today and we all should be proud of what we have achieved if not you ,your fore-bearers who cultivated life.

The question is, are we prepared to go up the crush and accept the whims of the developers who will cash in and leave, or dig in and fight for your lifestyle.

A good test really for the ones who have swanned along and lived off other peoples fights for conditions if they have the balls to hit the streets of placards or hide and complain and procrastinate.

Thagoona United could be a great FC if formed , Or Maybe a group of like minded people who want a say and be part of the decision making of what is going to happen to you and your kids future..

Yep… Just an Old Boomer thinking out Loud 😉😜 You know the ones that have no filter and call it .. its the week for us apparently with PJ Keating having a quiet word. 😆😆🤣🤣 and shaking a few trees …

  1. Is there a way to work with the wildlife? I know nothing about engineering and don’t care about a tavern or shopping centre but we desperately need more (good) doctors. It is not enough to just object to things E.g. Climate change protesters who have not done their research and leave a great mess behind them; we need to also offer solutions if we are to be heard.
I love our wildlife and want to see it protected but unfortunately change will happen so somehow we need to care fir animals and people who need homes too. Not that all people deserve help. Lol

    1. I agree totally, progress is inevitable but with that comes a responsibility of all of us to look after our wildlife. The balance must be in favour of nature or we die off from extreme events. Not rocket science there were seeing it happen all around us. Thagoona will not change the World but we can just set a benchmark for Council and developers not to take the existing residences as fools and they know best. Mate I’ve run my race, but I still get incensed when I see the younger people either chose to not care or they are so naive believe things will fix themselves and I’m all right mate.

      1. I wonder if there has been development done anywhere in such a way as to allow wildlife to cohabitate with humans? If so, councils should be demanding that developers act accordingly.
